Zinsser: quality paints.
Our range of Zinsser paints has grown massively over the last few years, as it has become increasingly clear just how good it is. Unlike many of the other brands that we have featured on our blog, which are focused on small and large scale industrial projects, Zinsser has a unique range of interior and exterior wall paints. Don’t get the wrong impression, these paints are not like your standard emulsions. Zinsser has become massively popular amongst professional painters, as well as domestic DIYers because of its high quality and excellent problem-solving capabilities.
Origin Story
Zinsser was founded in 1849 by William Zinsser, under the principles of quality, innovation and problem solving. This has been their mantra ever since, and they have developed this idea into a range of high quality products.
Throughout the years more and more products have been added to their range, to tackle the ever change issues that we encounter. Their newest marketing creation, which was launched in October 2016, personifies their ideals regarding their products, and present a tough, “take no prisoners” approach to painting and decorating. The two characters, Frank and Fabian, each represent different sides of the Zinsser brand: Frank is the organised, resourceful, preparation expert; Fabian is the detail-orientated, colour conscious, design expert. The two come together with their no nonsense attitude to sum up the Zinsser brand.
Did you know Zinsser. . .
We have supplied Zinsser Allcoat to be used on the NAB Tower Lighthouse in Hampshire. It was originally built for anti-submarine protection, and was used in World War 1; it was then used as a manned lighthouse in World War 2 to provide defence to the Solent approach. Since then it has gone through a massive refurbishment, using only the best quality products to ensure this monumental landmark remained at its best. the main body of the lighthouse isn’t painted, but the hexagonal prism light and the helipad are. The fact that Zinsser products were chosen for this site, and the fact that Zinsser’s products have had no issues in standing up to the difficult atmosphere that it’s exposed to at the lighthouse, show just how good the quality is.
The people working on this job picked up on the problem-solving capabilities of Zinsser’s products and chose to utilise them in a harsh environment. This is why it is fast becoming the brand of choice for professional painters and DIYers: it won’t under-perform in quality.
The People’s Choice. . .
For most of us, keeping a lighthouse ship-shape is not a problem that we face, but domestic issues are. Often people are surprised to hear that even sever issues like fire and smoke damage can be rectified, providing the surface is still sound. Zinsser developed a product called BIN which will not only get rid of any unsightly marks and damages, but it also seals in the smell from the smoke, which otherwise takes a long time to fade. By permanently blocking these odours it helps get the building back to normal a lot faster.
This ability to seal in smells means that BIN is not only used in a domestic setting, but it is also used in pubs, restaurants etc. where its ability to cover up difficult stains and seal in smells can be utilised. Here at Andrews we get pubs calling us all of the time looking for something to remove old nicotine stains, and we always recommend BIN because often the stains and smells have penetrated deep into the wall, and this product prevents them from escaping the surface.
Use it for a range of common household problems, such as: water stains, fungal degradation, nicotine, oil stains, marker pens stains and more.
The most common problem solution . . .
The most common problems that you face depend on the house to some degree. Outdated wallpaper that will take too long to remover: wallpaper cover-up. Water stains: Bulls-Eye 123. But in general the most common issue that arises is the everyday household is damp. Some cases are more severe than others, but most houses are afflicted with damp at one time or another. Because of this, Zinsser have invested a lot of their time and resources into developing the ideal solution: Perma White.
The vast majority of the time there is no need to use a primer under Perma White. it has excellent hiding power, moisture resistance and mould fighting capabilities. Only in cases of the most severe mould may you need to use a product such as BIN or Coverstain as a primer to seal the surface and provide a fresh surface to enhance the properties of Perma White. There is a biocide within the paint that protects the dried coating from mould and Mildew, and when you pair this with its natural moisture resisting qualities then it does make an unbeatable damp fighting product.
